In an open letter by founder Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook has been declared a hugely popular social networking site for most of the world’s online community. About 3/4th of the total 450 million global broadband users also login to their Facebook accounts to interact with friends, colleagues and relatives.

In his letter, Zuckerberg also outlined some new features and tools to be introduced on the site. Privacy controls will be made much simpler and easy to use in coming months. In addition to enhancing the current privacy settings, options will be enabled for control the viewing of individual content instead of an overall setting for an account. Many users have been waiting for this feature.

With these new additions, Facebook may become even more favoured among the online community. However, the latest figures accumulated by GigaOM show that it took 77 days for the latest 50m users to sign up with Facebook, whereas the last 50m users took only 62 days. The slowdown comes even as Facebook management seriously considers plans to promote the site as a successful business venture.

It is worthy to note that Facebook showed a positive cash flow for the first time in September this year. Computer Weekly reports that Facebook stocks went up during the July- Nov period by 42% as shares sold privately touched $21. Facebook stocks may be sold by the management over the next couple of years.
