Online Shopping is increasingly becoming the norm for many people. There is an endless selection of products on offer which can be acquired without even stepping out of the house. This is really perfect for those of us who dislike the idea of hitting the shops on the weekend or after work. As time goes by the number of people who have payment methods such as credit cards and the ability to shop with them on the web increases. It is not just purchasing goods such as a men’s rolex or a ladies sports watch that takes places online, but also booking holidays, paying bills, banking and buying tickets for travel.

Those who do shop via the web can sometimes face issues with the delivery of their items. This can cause headaches as items can go missing or take forever to arrive. Certain merchants can also be very strict about their shipping rules and will only ship to certain countries and only to the purchasing cardholders address. If when you shop online you are away from home you can get your transaction cancelled as the merchant may wrongly suspect a fraudulent transaction is taking place. The merchant will be able to check your IP address and when it does not match the card holders address they think you are making a fraudulent purchase.

Something many people fail to realise is that if you buy goods on the web you may be subject to paying customs and import charges. If you are an EU citizen and you make a purchase from inside the EU for example then you will have to pay no charges. But, that same transaction if done with a merchant in the USA for instance could be subject to charges depending on the value of goods involved. You could find yourself in a state of surprise when you are asked to pay money to the delivery person to obtain your goods.

Due to there being more trade done online these day there is also more opportunity for counterfeit goods to be sold. Recently in the UK over 1200 web sites which were dealing in counterfeit branded goods were shut down. Before the authorities stepped in to close these sites many people had been tricked in to buying knock-off goods. Buying from sites which are not well established online names can be a big risk. Check the full address and telephone number are clearly displayed on any site you are thinking of buying from ad if their deal seems far too cheap then there could be a good reason for that! Auction websites can also be a popular place for people to try and con shoppers with fakes. Always be very alert on these sites, like Ebay for example.
