Golf Equipment - Find the Best Brands, Styles, and Designs for You to Achieve Guaranteed Results

Posted by admin on 26 Jun 2008 | Tagged as: Athlete's Lair

If you are looking for information pertaining to Callaway golf clubs, golf club components, golf club clones or any other brand or form of golf equipment, you will find it very helpful to read on. Nowadays, there are many factors to consider when trying to find the ideal golf equipment
for you. Whether it is a driver, fairway woods, irons, golf bags, golf balls or any other golf equipment accessory, we all have different preferences and needs. Every person is unique, and every swing is different from player to player. For instance, a golfer with a fast swing will achieve better results with a stiffer shaft as opposed to a softer shaft. The problem that many people encounter when shopping for golf equipment such as Callaway golf clubs, golf club components, golf club clones or any other piece of golf equipment, is that there are so many choices and features available that it is difficult for the average person to know where to begin, or where exactly to begin looking, for that matter.

Those are not the only things that come into play when seeking golf equipment such as Callaway golf clubs, golf club components, golf club clones or any other form of golf equipment. It can get very complicated if you happen to get into specifics such as “center of gravity” in the clubhead, and what effect it will have on your shot depending on where it is located within the clubhead. And we do recommend you do get into those “specifics” to acieve the best possible results with the equipment you happen to choose. Depending on the level of player you are, you may want to leave the “specifics” to the pros. Go to a pro-shop and try an assortment of brands and models, and be sure to ask one of the salesmen to help you find which type of clubheads, shafts and golf balls are best suited for your type of swing. If you don’t know what type of swing you have, have him watch you swing a few times. Most of the time, salesmen in golf proshops are very knowledgeable when it comes to the fundamentals of golf and golf equipment.

They will be able to help you dramatically. One thing they may not be able to help you with however, is a price to suit your budget.

This is why we recommend you do your research, go to pro-shops, golf equipment shops, and do what ever you have to do to find the particular pieces of golf equipment like Callaway golf clubs, golf club components, golf club clones and all golf equipment needs, then make you purchases on the internet. Internet shopping is becoming more and more popular. Why, you ask.

People are becoming more aware of the great deals on the internet due to the fact that the middlemen are eliminated in the process, or that huge stock must be cleared to make room for new arrivals. There is an abundance of website merchants offering prices so low that stores just cannot compete with, and they usually carry a much wider selection of goods. So if you are the type of person who likes brand names, you will have no trouble at all finding equipment with BIG names such as Callaway, Nike, Cleveland Golf, Titleist, Ping, Orlimar and TaylorMade, to name a few. You may also be interested in having a look at some alternatives such as clone golf clubs.

These are golf clubs made to the specs of all your favorite top brands, and usually the only differences are the name on the club and the price. This is a great way to pay even less, and still get what you want and deserve, as long as you don’t mind a different brand name.

Good luck shopping for your favorite golfing needs, and try to make it a learning experience.

Remember, your knowledge on golf eqipment can result in a surprising improvement in your game.

Little things like a basic understanding of why a ball reacts the way it does when coming off the clubhead can make it easier to work on your swing. So, know what’s best suited for You before you buy, and you’ll be on your way to a much more enjoyable round of golf for years to come.

Bowling: This Game Should Be Called “Spares”

Posted by admin on 10 Jun 2008 | Tagged as: Athlete's Lair

Bowling is all about spare shooting. One of my favorite phrases when I am teaching bowlers is “this game should be called spares”. I really believe that because without spares, all of those strikes that you are throwing are essentially useless.

Why do I say that strikes are essentially useless? The odds of you throwing 12 strikes (the maximum you can throw in one game) every game is next to 0%. Without spares you will be hard-pressed to maintain a good average (above 160). For example, if you are to throw a strike and then a 9-miss for your 10 frame game you will shoot 140, on the other hand, if you are to throw a strike and then a 9 - spare for 10 frames you will shoot 200. There is a 60 pin difference between the scores!

As it stands now, there is a lot more “glamour” around throwing strikes than spares. I venture to say that bowling is all about hitting your spares consistently. It is possible to throw 10 spares every game, not likely that you will throw 10 or 12 strikes a game. The game should have been called spares, then new bowlers would be more likely to be interested in learning how to pick up their spares than how to throw more strikes.

During practice (and teaching time for me), I always practice my spares. Every once in a while I will go out and practice throwing strikes, but I know that, in the long run, spares are my bread and butter. If I can’t get my spares then I might as well pack up and go home.

My advice to you: Practice… Practice… Practice… your spares!

Keep bowling and having fun!

When It Gets Right Down To It — I Choose Campers

Posted by admin on 09 Jun 2008 | Tagged as: Athlete's Lair

Debating about it is not an issue. No, I’m not talking about recreational vehicles that you tow, drive, or carry on the back of your pickup. The people who go camping are a special breed that somehow know how to enjoy themselves, and are ready for a challenge. Unique qualities exist among them that are worth recognizing.

Along with people that go camping either as a weekend break, or as a vacation, I include fishermen, hunters, birdwatchers, hikers, climbers, and all those that seriously seek to commune with nature. They all seem to have a powerful drive for adventure. Oh yes! I know that hikers on a one day trek may not really do any camping as we think of it. But you can’t deny that they meet the criteria for camping-out most of the time; the same with birdwatchers.

Ten reasons why I choose these “nature challenged” souls to associate with:

1. Show survival skills.
2. Driven to help others.
3. Manifest creative attitudes.
4. Avoid confrontations.
5. Seek to learn.
6. Teach us relaxation.
7. Expose us to our natural surroundings.
8. Instill a desire for healthier living.
9. Enable “peace of mind” to follow us home.
10.Learn about ourselves.

1. Granted. If your boat sinks in the middle of the lake, you won’t go home in a good mood. But you may have practiced your survival skills by swimming ashore. I’ve noticed many times that during each and every seemingly desperate situation that instinct kicks in and we do the right thing. In the process, we have learned another technique to save ourselves from harm. Campers learn many more of these skills than non-campers (or should I say, city folk). Now I’m in trouble.

2. I have never been out camping and run into real problems, without other campers being willing to help in as many ways as they can. It’s not so much true in my neighborhood. Other campers share supplies and even their gear willingly, but that is only up to a point. They know that the item will be taken care of and they will get it back. Loan my tools to a neighbor and rarely do I get them back without insisting on it. Yes I know, you have good neighbors who don’t do such things, right?

3. You should take the time to watch other campers set up their campsite and take it down again. Most campers have a knack for coming up with ingenious ways to pack gear and supplies. It can save time and money. They seem to find creative ways to keep the tent from blowing down, trench rainwater away from the tent, fix broken equipment, and keep track of the kids; sometimes, all at the same time.

4. For all the years that we have been camping, I have rarely experienced violent outbreaks going on in the campgrounds. I have in my neighborhood at home. I believe that it is because campers “mellow out”, are less aggressive, and focus more on having an enjoyable time than they do when outside in this relaxing environment. Campers are much more forgiving of kids yelling, noisy radios, and dogs romping through their site.

5. People who camp regularly have a definite predisposition for learning. Each campsite, tasks involved with organizing it well, and predicting weather coming into the area - all are a new learning experiences each and every time. Campers seem to be of the learning type even in their everyday life. As a consequence, they are also teachers and usually share their knowledge.

6. Have you noticed that many people out there camping are not really enjoying themselves, or seem bored, or just do not know how to relax. I have a hard time relaxing, always have. The secret is to watch other campers and see what they do to pass the time. Along the way you will always find someone doing something that interests you and relaxes you. Then you are hooked!!

7. Without a doubt, nature forces campers to take notice. You are right there in the middle of it, so why not? Just gleaning even small amounts of what nature offers in the way of beauty, interesting interactions, and wildlife, is never forgotten. If you don’t do camping, you will miss most all of this wonder. Watching out of the car window doesn’t cut it!

8. Exercise increases during the camping process. You think more about your health and wellbeing than you do at home. Just watching the people hiking, playing, and moving like a bullet to get out of the rain, is an inspiration to be healthier. Of course, you may also be left with terrible guilt feelings if you don’t act on the thoughts. It does move you in the right direction.

9. Being around campers, participating in the events that occur, and using the relaxation techniques other campers also use, is something that hangs around for several days after arriving home. It’s sticky! Can’t really explain why, but it does. At least the feelings are there to counteract the daily work stresses at home and in the office for those few days after arriving home. Other campers trigger it, unless you camp alone. Then nature triggers it.

10. Self introspection takes place during those quiet times whether you want it to happen or not. It is easier to have a real conversation with family or friends in a camping environment. Family problems are often resolved in a pleasant way - no spitting or kicking. You get a good idea about how you truly feel about things, and where your life is going. Most campers know this. They share it.

Is there a better way to experience these valuable assets than going on a camping venture? It’s debatable. Going on a cruise, might stir up a couple of these. Sporting events raise blood pressure, pulse, and anxiety levels. Hobbies can be stressful. Camping in one form or another is a world wide sport and often a way of life.

I like to think about the enjoyment that comes with camping. The fact that so much of camping is less costly than so many other relaxing ventures, reminds me of someone who said:

“Much happiness is overlooked simply because it doesn’t cost anything.”

Golf Carts: An Evolution on the Golf Course

Posted by admin on 03 Jun 2008 | Tagged as: Athlete's Lair

At one point in time, the use of a golf cart was something only the somewhat wealthy could enjoy on a golf course. Those who were not able to afford the use of a golf cart often found themselves hauling their clubs over their shoulder as they walked the golf course. Well, times have changed.

Golf carts are now the standard at almost all golf courses throughout the country. Very seldom do golfers carry their clubs over their shoulder anymore. Unfortunately, some recreational golfers like to treat the course golf cart like a toy rather than a purposeful mode of transportation. Often times, you can witness wreckless behavior exchanged between recreational golfers and the use of their golf carts. However, this is one minor annoyance as a result of the golf cart gaining popularity.

Typically, golf carts are available for rent from the course clubhouse. Most golfers take advantage of this service. An alternative, if you have the money, would be to buy your own golf cart. However, this is costly, but you will not need to pay rent for a golf cart whenever you go to the course.

Golf carts are available for purchase either new or used. New golf carts can be purchased from anywhere from about $4000 to $11,000 dollars. Many factors attribute to the cost, such as model, seating capacity, and any additional options that may be available. There are two types of golf cart engines, gas engine or electric engine.

An alternative to new golf carts would be to purchase a used golf cart. Used golf carts are alot cheaper than new ones, and typically you can find a sufficient golf cart for less than $3000. Buying a used golf cart can be alot like buying a used car. You will need to thoroughly inspect it inside and out. Make sure to ask the owner any questions you may have about the golf cart. Always make sure to take it for a test drive before committing to a purchase.

Downhill Skiing — The Mind-Body Connection

Posted by admin on 21 May 2008 | Tagged as: Athlete's Lair

Today, you’ll be introduced to the three essentials of a proper mind set, namely, motivation, visualization, and focus. Get mentally tough in these areas and your confidence level will soar. In addition, you’ll be able to jettison any anxieties you may have about downhill skiing.

The expert skier understands the virtues of building a strong body, but he or she also needs the right mind set for skiing. You need to be well-prepared for the mind games that are associated with skiing in the expert zones where the control of one’s mind is often as important as the strength of one’s body.

Yes, there is definitely a mind-body connection in downhill skiing! You won’t need a treatise on the latest break through in the psychological aspects of fear to conquer steeps, trees, and moguls. The old adage, you have nothing to fear but fear itself, applies to expert skiing as well. The right mind set will serve to get you psyched up, keep your anxieties in check, and let you focus completely on the task at hand.

The Three Essentials of a Proper Mind Set

Motivation, visualization, and focus are three of the essential skills the expert skier needs to master the subconscious mind and become tougher mentally. Let’s consider each one of these requirements in turn.

Motivation

Being motivated will put you in control of your thoughts. You need to tell yourself over and over that you’re in charge, not the ski hill. This will help you to develop a positive attitude so you can reach your goals for the season.

Visualization

Visualization is another technique that you can use to prepare yourself for that tough mogul run or steep slope. You need to learn how to visualize or form a mental picture of the complete run before you start. In addition, learning to relax will serve to keep a lid on your anxieties. Ski racers and aerialists often use these methods just before the beginning of a race or competition.

Focus

Focusing allows you to break up the run into smaller tasks so you can zoom in on the next two or three turns. This eliminates the fear of the complete run, and also

serves to keep your head up and eyes looking ahead at the next obstacle in your path.

Summing Up

The lesson entitled The Right Mind Set in the Skills of the Expert Skier expands on the three essentials so you know how, when, and where to apply the techniques. Ski coaches, instructors and sports psychologists all agree that mental conditioning can go a long way toward making you the skier you always dreamed you could be.

If you’ve read the articles about stretching and exercising you’re already aware that you have to train your body to be stronger to handle the rigors of downhill skiing. Now it’s time to train your mind how to keep your anxieties in check.

Muscle and Fitness — The Second Key To Successfully Achievi

Posted by admin on 05 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: Athlete's Lair

Lets discuss Muscle and Fitness — The Second Key To Successfully Achieving Your Fitness Goals. But just before that, I’d like to remind you about what the previous article discussed.

In a previous article called: “Muscle and Fitness — The First Key To Achieving Your Goals”, you were given ten steps to follow. If you haven’t received this article, I suggest you read that before this one here, as it will make what I’m talking a little clearer.

You can access that article here:
http://www.how-to-build-muscle-and-fitness.com/muscle-and-fitness-1.html

In summary, that article discussed the first key — the ‘HAVE’ key. This is where you identify your muscle and fitness goals.

There are still the ‘BE’ and ‘DO’ keys to go. Which brings me to the second key –

The ‘DO’ Key:

This is the action key. The one that gets you to do what is
necessary to make things happen.

So what you need to do is first identify what your goals are. Decide exactly what you want to achieve and then choose the necessary actionable steps to achieve those goals.

In the first key, the HAVE key, you went through a process that helped (or will help) you in deciding what you want. Maybe it was to lose weight or gain mass muscle, or whatever.

The point is that you know what you want to get out of your
training routine before commencing the routine that suits your goals.

Assuming you have gone through the HAVE key, it’s time to go through the DO key and structure your bodybuilding workout routine, or fitness routine, around your goals.

So lets do that, shall we?

1. Review the work you did in the HAVE key. In other words, look at the index card (postcard) you created that identified your exact goals.

2. Read them. As you do so, feel them. Imagine performing a specific exercise that would be most beneficial for that particular goal. See it happen, as if it is actually happening.

What exercise would be the most effective one in helping you achieve that specific goal?

Once you have decided which exercise to use, write it down.

3. Now move onto the next goal on that card. Go through the motions that you just did in number two above. Feel it. See it.

How good do you feel?

Now, which exercise will be most effective for that specific goal?

Write it down just below the first one.

4. Now move onto the next goal on your card and repeat steps two and three above. Do this until you’ve decided on your specific routine.

Again, write the exercises down.

5. How many repetitions do you need to do?
How many sets should you perform?

This depends on your goals. If it’s to lose weight, then keep the weights light, but heavy enough to provide adequate resistance. If you choose to build muscle, then decide how much muscle you want to build. Then you would choose heavier weights and fewer reps.

If you’re not sure how much weight to use, reps to do or sets to perform… then seek the advice of a professional.

6. Time to choose how often you need to train. If you building bigger muscle, you may need to break your training regime into two to three parts. In other words…

You may decide to work the chest, back and legs on day 1. Then shoulders, biceps and triceps on day 2. Then rest on day 3.

Or are you looking to lose weight?

Then you may choose to perform a total body workout on day 1 and rest on day 2. You may wish to add in some aerobical workout routine as this will help burn off the excessive calories much more quickly.

Just make sure that it’s appropriate for your goal.

7. What about your diet?

Decide what foods are right for you and your goals. Are you
looking to lose weight?

Then eat less, but consume more healthy food with low fat and calories. Decide how often to eat.

Looking to gain weight?

Then eat more. Also choose better foods that can help with weight gain, while they are healthy at the same time. Look for decent whole foods. Decide if supplements are necessary.

8. Make sure that you’ve written everything down. Review it and see if you’ve left anything out.

Now you have the DO key done. You are at the point where you have structured your training program to help you get your goals. In other words…

You now have two of the three keys:

‘DO - HAVE’

All that’s left is the ‘BE’ key. But, that’s enough for today.

Just review this article and take action on the steps above. Follow these steps until complete.

Once you follow these steps, you are set up for the final key…

the ‘BE’ key.

Keep an eye out for it

Paintball Marker Upgrades - Battle Gear

Posted by admin on 04 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: Athlete's Lair

Not all paintball markers are the same. And they shouldn’t be. The many paintball equipment manufacturers bring lots of ideas to the table and the stores shelves. Getting the most out of the gear is up to the player. Several upgrades can be added to the marker to edge out the opponent.

Good paintball guns are the ones with the ability to upgrade. Customization is the key factor in celebrating a paintballers style of play. Learn the style and take control of paintball equipment for a better chance at the win.

  • Loaders. With the best hoppers and loaders, the player can be assured that the paint will go where it is supposed to. There is less breakage, and less mess to clean up.
  • Barrels. Increase the marker’s range and accuracy with a new barrel. Good barrels cost around $150.
  • Triggers. Response is the objective here. Electronic or double triggers increase firepower and the chance of survival.
  • Grips. Versatility is the name of the paintball game. Controlling the marker is what really matters most. Get a grip on the gear.
  • Software boards. Control the configuration and firing capabilities with new software upgrades. They utilize and capture the best aspects of the paintball gun.
  • Not all players are interested in upgrading the markers because it can get to be expensive. For others, it is a chance to get the most out of the game that they love. Take the time to consider the upgrades for the chosen style of play.

When a player realizes what type of player they are, then is the time to take advantage of the specialty paintball gear available at local and online paintball stores.
